TURNBULL DRAGGING THE CHAIN ON EMERTON MEN'S SHED FUNDING

24 May 2016

Federal Member for Chifley Ed Husic has condemned the Turnbull Government for failing to respond to requests for assurance that the Emerton Mens Shed will not face closure.
I have spoken in Parliament about this funding crisis and asked for the Minister of Health to ensure that the Emerton Mens Shed remains funded, but I have yet to receive a response, Mr Husic said.
We have three months left for the Emerton Mens Shed if the Government doesnt commit to suicide prevention funding, then the community will be denied a vital service people desperately need.
Yesterday Mr Husic met with members and volunteers from the Mens Shed to discuss the potential funding cuts being handed down by the Turnbull Government.
On Christmas Eve, the Liberal Government sent a stunning letter to the Emerton Mens Shed informing them that their usual funding would no longer be available, and they would have to re-apply for support
Our Mens Shed provides a welcome community refuge. It is a place where people find something meaningful and enjoyable to do whilst making new friends, learning new skills and getting any help they may need.
At a Mens Shed like the one in Emerton, they find a safe environment where they can make themselves busy. Thats why I feel so strongly about keeping our local Shed open and protecting it from Malcolm Turnbulls funding cuts.
