Community groups with a great idea to help strengthen and improve local neighbourhoods have a chance to get funding to turn those ideas into reality.
Federal MP EdHusictodayannounced theopening of theapplications for the Stronger CommunitiesGrantsprogramin Chifley.
Mr Husic said that the program provided$150,000 per year for two years to fund small capital projects which deliver social benefitsto our area.
While the Abbott Governments funding cuts have put pressure on localgroups, at least there is a chance for some to access funds for worthwhile community projects, Mr Husic said.
A consultation committee will be set up toreview project submissions andensure that thefunding delivers the best possible outcomes for our community.
Groups applying for funds need to be aware that they have to be willing to match dollar for dollar any program funding that theyre seeking.
Grantsof between $5,000 and $20,000will be available and according to program guidelines projects such as fitting out a mensshed or creating abike path will be considered.
