ROOTY HILL RSL FITTING ANZAC CENTENARY SERVICE

04 May 2015

Federal Member for Chifley Ed Husic MP today commended the Rooty Hill RSL and its Sub-Branch for the conduct of its ANZAC Centenary Dawn Service.
The Rooty Hill RSLs ANZAC Centenary Dawn Service was both fitting and extraordinary, Mr Husic said.
The Sub-Branch service was deeply moving and respectfully marked the occasion of this special and important milestone in our nations history.
The attendance of the nearly 10,000 people for the service was an enormous reflection of our communitys respect for the ANZAC tradition.
The turnout was almost double of what was expected. The fact that such a huge tide of people was managed so smoothly by the RSL is a credit to the planning and care underpinning the event.
The RSLs new memorial, which was officially opened during the service, will become a highly regarded local landmark.
The Rooty Hill RSL commemorated the centenary with an ANZAC march, followed by a special Dawn Service and an official opening of the memorial at the RSL.
Mr Husic said he was personally grateful to have the chance to speak at the service and recognise the local contribution to the national war effort.
On that battlefield at Gallipoli, the ANZAC determination, ideals and commitment to mateship were forged. These values and attributes continue to carry through our armed forces today.
The Dawn Service helped recognise and commemorate this in a way that will long live in the memories of our community.
