CHILDCARE COSTS SET TO DOUBLE AFTER TURNBULL BREAKS PROMISE

24 May 2016

Childcare costs are set to double for more than 100,000 families next year as Malcolm Turnbull fails to deliver on his promise for cheaper childcare fees.
Parents promised childcare relief have been let down again by the Turnbull Government who has now conceded that Parliament will not pass promised reforms until after the election and we dont even know when the election will actually be held, Mr Husic said.
Failing to pass the promised reforms will result in more families hitting the $7,500 cap on childcare fee relief.
When parents hit the childcare cap, they are cut off from relief until the next financial year, Ms Rowland said.
Nearly a year after announcing the $40 billion package, the Coalition Government has failed to introduce legislation that would result in any changes for families in Western Sydney despite promising more flexible and affordable childcare.
These failed reforms mean that out of pocket costs for families will skyrocket as they struggle to make ends meet to cover the increasing costs of childcare. An estimated 15 percent of all families will run out of the rebate at some point next year and will be forced to pay double.
The childcare package was billed as a replacement for the scrapped parental leave scheme, but has now also resulted in another broken promise from the Turnbull Government.
